workshops with Juc

Knowledge is (FLINTA+) empowerment!

Great to have you here!

Here you can find out everything about my Ableton Live workshop programme and where I’m giving the next workshops. Feel free to get in touch if you’re interested in working with me!

Knowledge is empowerment

As a workshop leader, I want to facilitate access to male-dominated topics such as producing for marginalised groups. I am particularly focused on FLINTA+ people (Female Lesbian Inter Non-Binary Trans Agender) in the creative and artistic professions, for whom I am very happy to offer FLINTA+ only workshops.

I am also happy to pass on my knowledge to other professional groups (and men too, of course).

My Ableton Live Workshops

Producing with Ableton Live: Basics

In this workshop you will learn how to take your first steps in producing with Ableton Live. You will learn the basics of DAWs (Digital Audio Workstations) in general and Ableton Live in particular. The aim is for you to understand the basics of producing and to be able to do your own research in order to answer your individual questions.

We take care of the following topics:

  • Technical setup (setting up the software, file management, audio interface, ASIO drivers)
  • Arrangement basics
  • Sound selection
  • Sound design
  • Audio effects
  • Mixing basics

This workshop is aimed at people who want to learn a new skill in an informal, playful atmosphere. All music genres are welcome!

(Elektronic) Komposition

In this workshop, I’ll be offering an insight into the compositional frameworks I use. From the static conventions of Western classical music (such as a symphony) to entirely loop-based concepts, there are endless possibilities for writing (electronic) music. I’ll present various approaches, and then, in working sessions, we’ll develop initial sketches that you can take home and refine.

I’ll introduce you to four compositional concepts:

  • Loops and samples: Layer-based composition
  • Melodies: Hook-based composition
  • Themes: Motif-based composition
  • Framework: Conceptual composition

Based on these, we’ll work out a song structure for each concept, which you can then develop further at home.

This workshop is aimed at people who want to expand their composition skills. Familiarity with a DAW is an advantage, but you don’t need to be a mixing expert or a sound design professional. A basic knowledge of (Western) music theory is also an advantage.

Electronic Live Music with Ableton Live

In this workshop you will learn how to perform on stage with Ableton Live without stress. I’ll show you how to structure your songs and effects in the session view, add audio effects to your voice/instrument, build a virtual loop station, map MIDI controllers and stay in control of your mix.

We take care of the following topics:

  • Technical setup (setting up the software, file management, audio interface, ASIO drivers)
  • Understanding the session view
  • Looping
  • Building (and outputting) click tracks
  • Audio effects
  • MIDI mapping for stress-free performing
  • (Vocal) effect chains
  • Using return tracks

This workshop is aimed at people who want to learn a new skill in an informal, playful atmosphere. All styles of music are welcome!

Virtual Hangout: Supervised practice

Are you familiar with the basics of Ableton and have you already started producing your own music? Then this workshop is right for you. During the supervised practice sessions, we will focus less on specific Ableton functions and more on your individual questions in the composition and production process.

We continue to work on your ideas and deal with the following topics:

  • Composition and arrangement
  • sound design
  • sound synthesis
  • (Pre-)Mixing
  • sampling
  • Individual Ableton tools and what they (can’t) do

The aim of the workshop is for you to continue working with like-minded people in a relaxed, appreciative environment instead of watching tutorials alone. Use my knowledge to solve stubborn problems and let your group not only encourage you, but also inspire you to new ideas and techniques!
